Mildred Sarah Vassel (Kipp) died at 95 years of age, after residing at Concordia at Sumner for several years. She was a lifelong resident of Akron and the Portage Lakes region. A student of Kent State and a graduate of Hamel Actual Business College, she worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1979. Millie was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, where she wed in 1941. For many years she was an active member of the Hibernian, The Akron Women’s City Club, Sons of Herman, German American Club, Portage Lakes Eagles, and Turkeyfoot Island Club. Millie was an avid golfer and founding member of Good Park Ladies. She will always be remembered for her generous spirit, zest for life, Irish humor, and love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and treasured friends. She is preceded in death by her faithful husband of 53 years, Joseph, by her parents, Henry and Sarah Kipp (Eleanor), and brothers, Kenneth and James. She is survived by her children Joseph (Lela) of Brimfield, Ruth Anne of Akron, Christine (Ron) of Cincinnati, and David (Sherry) of Akron. In addition, Grandma Millie is survived by 12 grandchildren who will miss her dearly; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation at the Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange Street on Thursday, July 24th, from 10-11:30am followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, 100 E. Waterloo Road.
