Michael E. Markowski, age 51, passed away on August 5, 2015. He is survived by his children, Ashley and Andrew and their mother, Margaret; parents, Edward and Joan; siblings, Jeff (Mary), Susan (Rob) Kurtz, Kevin (Helene) and Anne Markowski; special godchildren, Abbigail Kurtz and Joey Markowski and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mike enjoyed golfing, Hilton Head Island, Cleveland sports, Notre Dame, where his daughter Ashley graduated and Ohio State, where his son Andrew is currently a student. His greatest enjoyment was his children, coaching their sports teams and never missing an event. Mike was proud of Ashley and Andrew's academic achievements, both honor roll students, encouraging them to follow their dreams. Mike was recognized in 2005 as a Distinguished Alumnus for his outstanding longtime service to Archbishop Hoban High School, graduating in 1982, and his professional success as a certified public accountant. He served as an officer for the Hoban Alumni Association before being appointed to the Board of Trustees in 1992 where he was head of the finance committee. He was a member of the Hoban Trust Fund Board for many years as the school built its endowment. He served as treasurer of all three organizations. Mike was an integral part of the very successful Hoban 2000 campaign serving as its financial chairperson. As a student at Hoban, Mike was a 3-time recipient of the Monsignor Richard A. Dowed School Spirit Award, the highest honor bestowed by Hoban. He also was a member of student council all four years and a member of the Knight's soccer team. Mike graduated from Xavier University with a bachelors of science degree in accounting. Mike was a certified public accountant with many firms, beginning at Ernst and Young and also was a partner in Drexler, Markowski and Zaucha. Calling hours will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio. A private mass will take place.
