MEDINA- Michael Demetra, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
Michael was born Oct. 6, 1934, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Stephen and Mary Halko Demetra.
He was a 1952 graduate of North High School. He had a long and storied career with Pepsi Co., retiring from the company with over 30 years of service. A foiled attempted armed robbery of his truck once earned him the nickname "Iron Mike."
In his free time, Mike enjoyed traveling with family and friends, hunting, and fishing. As an avid gardener, he took great pride in his plants and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor of love with friends and family.
He was a longtime member of St. Anne's Byzantine Catholic Church, where he volunteered for many years to make the weekly batches of pierogies and holiday kolachi.
Mike is survived by the love of his life and best friend of 64 years, the former Dorothy Komenak, whom he married on October 14, 1961; a son, Michael Demetra of Medina; a daughter Michelle Roberts of Jacksonville, Florida; grandsons, Zachary and Aidan, and granddaughter by love, Sarah.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his two brothers, John and Joey Demetra; two sisters, Anne Solomon and Mary Fecko; and his infant granddaughter Alyssa Hing.
A private service was held at Hummel Funeral Home in Medina, and a celebration of life for family and friends will be planned for a future date in Youngstown.
