Meryl Richard Boxler, son of the late William and Mary Boxler died on February 18, 2017 at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his brothers William, Edwin, Paul, Howard and Robert, and sisters, Mildred, Leona Lischak, and Rose Horinger. Survived by sister, Dorothy McNeill, and by his brother in faith. He graduated from Robinson Elementary, East High School, and the University of Akron where he received his BS and MS in Education. He served in the United States Army at the close of World War II. He was discharged as a staff sergeant. He worked for the Akron Board of Education teaching at Miller and Spicer Schools. He served as principal at Lane, Grace, and Betty Jane Schools, retiring from Case School after thirty years of service. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church for 55 years. He treasured his Roman Catholic faith. Calling hours are from 5-8 pm on Friday, February 24 at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange Street, Akron. The family invites friends and family members to celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, 4019 Manchester Rd., on Saturday, February 25. He wishes to extend appreciation to his nieces, especially Theresa Francis, Patricia Cellitti, and Margaret Pace, nephews, neighbor Lois Baer, and many parishioners and friends for their kindness and help during difficult times. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery with his parents, and brothers Paul and Howard.
