Matthew Petersen

June 11, 1981 — December 3, 2019

Matthew A. Petersen, born June 11, 1981 passed away suddenly on December 3, 2019. He was raised in Stow, Ohio and attended Stow Munroe Falls High school with the class of 1999. A true angel on this Earth, is now our angel in Heaven. Waiting for him at the glorious gates of Heaven, Matthew was preceded in death by his father, Richard A. Petersen Sr, grandparents Theodore and Rosalia Marzullo and grandparents Clarence and Marian Petersen. He is dearly missed and survived by his loving mother, Carol (Marzullo) Petersen, sisters Erin (Jay) Braybon and Cara (Joe) Kovalesky. Children, Logan, Kylie and Konner Petersen, nephews Timothy, Shawn, Andrew, Evan, Joey and Tyler and nieces Briana and Carlia as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Matthew loved spending time with his family and friends (and eating dinner at his sister Erin's house all the time), but above all, he loved his children. He loved taking them to parks, feeding the geese and ducks, coloring with his daughter and building lego sets with his sons. Matthew never hesitated to help another person. He would go without just to help someone else in need. From paying other peoples rent, to delivering pizzas at night to the homeless, to giving the shoes off of his own feet. He has helped a countless number of people through their sobriety and recovery, and recently became close with the Lord and loved to share that with anyone that would listen to him. His family and friends meant the world to him. He would help anyone at any time day or night. He was dedicated to going to various group meetings and his church, Grace Church - Bath Campus, and Celebrate Recovery. Visitation for friends and family will be held at Victory Life Church, 3833 Hudson Drive, Stow Ohio 44224 on Sunday December 15, 2019 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm with a memorial service immediately following. If you are struggling at any time with mental health, depression or suicidal thoughts, Matthew would want you to seek help immediately. Please call the National Suicide Prevention hotline at 1-800-273-8255, or contact the crisis text hotline by texting 'HOME' TO 741741. 'God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen'
