Mary Elizabeth (Krill) Sawan , a consummate English and drama teacher, loving wife, devoted mother, and the best Nana, died on December 15, 2015. She was in her 79th year of life. Mary was the eldest daughter of the late Dr. Carl and Helen Krill. She was born in Akron and attended St. Sebastian parish school and Our Lady of the Elms HS. She earned her B.A. in English from Siena Heights College. Upon graduating, Mary married Eugene Donald Sawan, M.D. Mary taught at St. Vincent-St. Mary HS and later at Our Lady of the Elms HS, where she brought the literature and theater she so loved to life for her students. Mary dedicated herself to raising her children and to teaching English and drama. A gifted writer, Mary was a regular contributor to the newsletter for the Catholic Women's League in Akron for many years, as well as a volunteer with the Catholic Service League. Mary joins her parents, her sister Kathleen and brother Dick , along with many other family members and lifelong friends. She will be dearly missed by her husband, her children, Gene (Amy) Sawan, Carla (Tom) Wasik, Leah (Sean) Hallinan, and Monique (Robert) Kolterman, her seven grandchildren, and her siblings and their families. Mary was a member of St. Sebastian Parish, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may be received at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Road, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Sebastian Church, to the Dolores Sawan Ovarian Cancer Fund through Akron General Development Foundation, to Our Lady of the Elms, or to a local charity.
