Mary Alice Stroh Redle passed away October 10, 2015 in her home and in the presence of her family and God. Blessed with a brilliant smile and an engaging personality, Mary embraced life in all its forms, shining as a daughter, wife, mother, educator, and person, leaving a lasting impression on those whom she met, and making many precious friends along the way. She saw everyone as a special, unique person. Mary faced challenges with incredible strength and courage and relied heavily upon her faith in God. Her death does not mean she lost the battle- she triumphed every day in the way she lived with her incredible strength, courage, dignity, love, forgiveness, and grace. Born January 28, 1947, Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothy Stroh, and brother, John, in-laws David and Betty Redle, and many members of her family. She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, David, daughters, Erin (Chad), Katie, and Meghan (Rick), her three treasured granddaughters: Taylor, Caitlin, and Abby, many cousins, in-laws, and friends too many to name. A 1965 graduate of Akron Garfield High School, Mary earned her bachelor's (1972) and master's (1976) degrees in education from the University of Akron. Mary always tried to positively impact her students' lives and help however she could. She was loved by so many of those she taught and found such joy in seeing them succeed. She shared her love of life teaching family and consumer sciences (in the old days- home economics) at Waterloo High School in Atwater, Ohio, Rock River High School in Rock River, Wyoming, R.G. Drage Vocational Center in Massillon, Ohio. She finished her career with the Akron Public Schools at Jennings Middle School, Ellet High School (branching into Early Childhood Education), and Firestone High School. In addition to her teaching career, Mary served on the Board of Trustees of the Ronald McDonald House of Akron and was a longtime member of the Christ Child Society of Akron. She spent many enjoyable hours baking, smocking, quilting and sewing items for friends and family. Some of her favorite times were baking or sewing with and for her granddaughters and daughters. Even when her health tried to stop her, Mary lived life to the fullest and always maintained that same sense of humor that helped her be voted Garfield High School Class of '65 'Class Clown.' She enjoyed traveling, her collection of a variety of music, Broadway shows, and could never pass up exploring a new quilt shop. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and friends and has left a void in their lives that will never be filled. The family thanks the many members of the health care community who provided her with care and comfort, in particular Dr. Melodie Phillips and all who serve with VNS Hospice. Friends and family may celebrate her life on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 from 4 to 8 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange Street, Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 9:30 am at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Avenue, Akron, OH 44313. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mary asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to help support Ronald McDonald House of Akron, 245 Locust Street, Akron, Ohio, 44302 or to Christ Child Society of Akron, Attn: Memorials Chair, P.O. Box 13411, Akron, Ohio, 44334-8811.
