Mary O'Neil 90 an elegant inspirational woman of diverse interests great faith and strong convictions who commanded the respect and love of many died April 7 2010. Mary was a graduate of Trinity College in Washington D.C. and Case Western Reserve University where she earned a Masters Degree in Library Science. Following graduation she worked as the head librarian at University School in Shaker Heights Ohio. Volunteering was an important part of Mary's life. During World War II she gave of her time to the American Red Cross helping wounded soldiers. She also volunteered at St. Thomas Hospital where she led the reorganization of a book program for patients. A world traveler Mary's interests included history literature fashion music and golf. She was also an avid reader who enjoyed lively conversations on politics finance world affairs entertainment and society. The first of Judge Augustin F. and Marie (Kramer) O'Neil's eight children Mary is survived by her siblings James F. O' Neil Patience J. O'Neil Margaret Ann (Harry) Freer J. Philip (Mary Karen) O'Neil sister-in-law Barbara O'Neil godson Mark G. Freer and many nieces nephews and family. Mary was predeceased by her parents Gus and Marie O'Neil; sister Alice M. Gaffney; brothers Robert A. O'Neil and Donal M. O'Neil; and brother-in-law Frank J. Gaffney and sisters-in-law Mary Helen O'Neil and Margaret K. O'Neil. The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all those who have shown their devotion to Mary for so many years and especially to Julia Boca Tina Anderson Liz Cook Dorothy Rakov and Carol Spaulding the wonderful staff of Sumner on Ridgewood and to Dr. Molly (Kramer) Scantling for her compassionate care.
