Mary Jane McCorkle

Mary Jane (Munka) McCorkle, age 95, died peacefully at home on December 7, 2022.

She was born in Akron, Ohio where she graduated from Buchtel High School, married her husband of 72 years (Dan), raised her 5 children and enjoyed being an active member of her church and community. Mary Jane believed in staying active and being useful. She enjoyed gardening and spent many years as a volunteer grounds crew member at St. Sebastian Church in addition to volunteering in the parish office. Mary Jane was a longstanding member of the Summit County Children Services Board Women's Auxiliary. She especially loved decorating SCCSB at Christmas and working at the annual Rummage Sale fundraiser.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband Dan, parents Michael and Katherine Munka and 5 brothers. She is survived by her sister Katherine Bryson of Akron.

She is also survived by her children Kathleen (Ron) Dawson, Christine McCorkle (Steve Van Auken), Robert (Susan) McCorkle, Tricia (Bill) Wehmer, and Diane (Mark) Armstrong. She leaves her 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and loyal friend June Cunningham.

Her family will fondly remember her wonderful home cooking, gifts of seedlings and an endless supply of clipped coupons. She hated for people to leave her home empty handed.

Deepest appreciation to all the staff at Brookdale especially loving caregivers Valerie, Mary and Ashley.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Road, Copley. Family will receive friends from 9:30 AM till the time of service.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Mary Jane's name to the SCCSB Women's Auxiliary Board scholarship fund.
