Mary Kay Luby, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 16, 2019. She was in the arms of her loving family. Mary Kay was preceded in death by her loving husband, Chuck Luby, after 45 wonderful years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents and many family and friends. Most recently, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Rosemary Bowen and Eileen Heinrichs. She is survived by her nine sons Chuck, Jim (Anne), Tom (Mary Ellen), Bo (Eileen), Phil, Paul, Tim (Lisa), Rick (Melissa), and Mike (Maria). She is also survived by her twenty two grandchildren Daniel, Benjamin, Meely, Taylor, Carlin, Callaghan, Alexandra, Matthew, Claire, Andrew, Ryan, Maddie, Joey, John, Justin, Brian, Charlie, David, Owen, Miles, Francis, and Patrick. And her four great-granddaughters Jenny Claire, Evelyn, Laiken, and Georgia Kate. Mary Kay was born October 18th, 1928 in Rockford, Illinois and graduated from Bishop Muldoon Catholic High School. Thereafter, she attended Marquette University where she met Chuck Luby. She graduated with a degree in Speech Therapy. Mary Kay and Chuck Luby were married in 1951. Mary Kay was a full time homemaker for many years. Mary Kay was active in the education and athletic endeavors of her sons and was especially involved in the Walsh Jesuit community, including the Walsh Jesuit Mother's Club. When her sons progressed in school, Mary Kay returned to work in public relations, development and marketing, and ended her career with 17 years at Our Lady of the Elms High School. Mary Kay was a member of St. Sebastian Parish for 57 years, and saw all her nine sons graduate from St. Sebastian School. St. Sebastian was her anchor in Akron. Mary Kay was also a long member of the Akron Christ Child Society, enjoying the love and laughter and fellowship and prayer with all her many Christ Child friends. After retiring, Mary Kay traveled the world, visiting her family and sharing her wonderful gifts of person. Mary Kay moved into the Village of Saint Edwards in early 2017 and enjoyed many peaceful and happy moments there, even continuing her travels and visits with family. The family appreciates the wonderful kindness and care from the staff at St Edwards. You made Mom a loving final home. The family also appreciates all the loving kindness shown to Mom by the Summa Hospice team in caring for Mom during her final illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 10 am at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery.
