Mary Kase

December 25, 1926 — October 18, 2019

Mary McKenna Kase, passed away October 18, 2019 with her family by her side. For the past two months she resided with son Jeff (Mary) at their home. Mom was born Christmas Day 1926 in Summitville, Ohio and lived in Silver Lake for the past 50 years. She attended Kent State University where she met her husband, Don who passed away in 2013. She was a devoted wife, and fantastic mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mom raised four pretty good kids: Jeff (Mary), Rich (Cathy), Mary Beth (Dave Ingalls), Jill (Joe McKenna). She is also survived by brother Tom, 10 grandkids and 16 great-grandkids. Mary was an active member of Holy Family Parish and a Charter Member of Silver Lake Country Club where she ruled the bridge table and Women’s Golf group in her day. She was an active member of the Women’s Akron District Golf Association. When her kids were growing up in St. Joseph Parish she was a Sacristan, PTA volunteer, volleyball coach and made her special ‘gooey rolls’ for the priests at the rectory. She was a long-time volunteer for St. Thomas Women’s Board and sold many a Day at the Races ticket. She was a Den Mother for the boys Cub Scout troops and active in the Phi Sigma Kappa and Walsh Jesuit HS Mothers’ Clubs. She was an incredible cook and loved to entertain in her home. She loved sports, decorating for every holiday, playing bridge, doing crosswords, reading and all things Irish. She was the glue that held our family together- never missed a graduation, wedding, sporting event, dance recital, school production or birthday. She hosted all the holidays and our traditions are because of her. We have so many wonderful and beautiful memories to remember her by and will continue to carry on the traditions that she started. Her family was her world and her greatest accomplishment, and we are so grateful to have had her on this earth for so long. We will miss her spunky, tough and loving personality. We will be toasting her with a Mimosa and our tic tacs will be jingling in our purses to remind us that she will always be near. Mom, Grandma, GG we love you so much and miss you already. Give Dad/Grandpa a hug from us. ️PS: you will always have a seat at the kids table! Our family would like to thank the professionals at Hospice of Western Reserve and her friends and neighbors for their caring and support. Calling Hours are Tuesday, October 22, 2019 4 - 7 at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Stow at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 23. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Family Church.
