Mary Grace Headley (O'Doherty) passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024 at age 91.
Born in London Ontario on October 5th, 1932, she was adopted on St Patrick's day 1933 and moved to her new home in Windsor, Ontario. She grew up with her best friend and cousin, Frances, and went to mass everyday with her Mother and beloved Grandmother. She graduated from Hotel-Dieu as a Registered nurse. Mary Grace found herself leaving Windsor for a 3 month adventure in Fort Lauderdale, Fl working as an RN at age 21. There she was swept off her feet by the love of her life, James (Jim) Headley. It only took three days for them to know they were meant to be. They were married just short of 69 years before Jim passed away in September 2023.
Mary Grace loved her family, friends and being Catholic. She enjoyed volunteering at Christ Child Society, as a Girl Scout Leader, and at St. Vincent/St Mary as school nurse. She once said the best nursing job she had was in the Our Lady of Elms Infirmary where she worked side by side with dear friends taking care of the sick and aging nuns. Mary Grace enjoyed many happy times traveling with friends, attending daily mass, having coffee with friends at Panera and spending many vacations on Ocracoke Island.
Mary Grace was preceded in death by her husband Jim Headley, parents John and Irene O'Doherty, and sister Kathleen O'Doherty. She is survived by her son Jim (Mary Pat) Headley, daughter Nancy (Mike) Wahl, daughter Maureen Sloan, daughter Susan Young; grandchildren, Daniel (Toni) Headley, Patrick Headley, Michael Wahl, Joseph (Dana) Wahl, Anthony Wahl; great grandchild Henry Wahl; and her many friends at St Isidore God Squad; Holy Family Hilton Head Church Mice, and Guardian Angel's Church.
She is now reunited in heaven with Jim. We are so blessed to have had Mary Grace in our lives for such a long time. We will remember her thoughtfulness and generosity. The past year without Jim has been difficult for her, and we are so thankful that she is now at peace and with him and all her loved ones who have gone before her. Special thanks to her caregivers (angels) Debra Fulton and Melissa Williams, Hospice homecare, and Hospice Care Center in Fairlawn for their compassion and support.
