Mary Greathouse

Mary Ann Idelle Erickson Greathouse, 71, a native of Crosby, North Dakota and a current resident of Mogadore, died with grace Monday, October 31, 2016 after a devastating diagnosis of congestive heart failure weeks earlier. Mary Ann was a graduate of Crosby High School who, having met Charles while attending college in Minot, travelled to Ohio to marry in 1964. She worked for Ohio Bell in Cleveland in the early years, but moved to Akron during her pregnancy. Mary Ann was the consummate mother and crafter, and even while managing the small North East Ohio Credit Union enjoyed social outings to the fullest. During retirement she gloried in traveling and constant activities. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Wendy and Ken Waters; son Craig; grandchildren Alan, Gwen and Elly Waters; brother and sister-in-law Charles and Dianne Erickson; and sister-in-law Jeanne Erickson. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles, her parents Ivan and Bernice Erickson, and siblings Jackie DeVaney and Stanley Erickson. She leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends to remember her spirit. Friends may call Saturday, November 5th from 2-5pm at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange Street, Akron, Ohio. As per Mary Ann's request, there will be no formal service but we will celebrate her life as she would prefer-with hats and festive shirts. The joie-de-vivre will continue at a reception at her home in Mogadore immediately following calling hours. (Directions available at calling hours.) We invite all of her friends and family to join us. Interment will be private at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
