Marilyn McDonald

August 22, 1926 — April 20, 2018

Marilyn Rose McDonald (Sturmi), 91, died peacefully at home on April 20, 2018. A lifelong resident of Akron, she attended St. Sebastian Grade School, St. Vincent High School (class of 1944) and graduated from Ohio Dominican University (formerly St. Mary of the Springs) in Columbus, Ohio. She was a registered Medical Technologist of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and was employed at St. Thomas Hospital for 21 years retiring in 1991. She was also employed at Timken Mercy Hospital in Canton for two years. She was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, the Sanctuary Society, the Legion of Mary, and the Senior Citizens Club. She was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Ladies Auxillary, and the St. Thomas Retirees lunch group. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alma (Dettling) and James Edwin (Ed) Sturmi. She is survived by her children, Robert (Vicki) McDonald of Palm Coast, Florida, Kevin McDonald of Akron, Terry (Peggy) McDonald of Green, Maureen (Jack) Jonozzo of Broadview Hts., brother, James E. Sturmi (Marilyn) of Cuyahoga Falls and sisters, Joan Wright of Stow, and Noel Mitchell of Henry, Illinois. She also leaves grandchildren, Kelly (Brian) Miller of Palm Coast, Florida, Bill (Teresa) McDonald of Charlotte, North Carolina, Thomas (Jennifer) McDonald of Fairlawn, Matthew (Therese) McDonald of Euclid, Megan McDonald of Akron, Nicole (Scott) Clymire of Akron, Benjamin Jonozzo of Broadview Hts., Michael (Kaitlyn) Jonozzo of Mentor and great-grandchildren, Ryan, Evanne, Kamryn and Collin Miller, Benjamin, James, and Ryan McDonald and Jack and Nate Clymire. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at St. Sebastian Church with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Marilyn will be remembered as a gentle soul, who always put others before herself. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, 15 N. Maple St. Akron, Ohio 44303.
