Marie Grossmayer Petras 86 Beloved daughter wife mother mother-in-law grandmother great-grandmother aunt cousin and friend passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday January 23 2012 at her home. She would have celebrated her 87th birthday on March 22nd. Marie was a lifelong Akron/Copley resident until moving to Virginia over four years ago to live with her daughter. A Garfield High graduate she was the first female class vice president and played drums in the high school band. After graduating and waiting through WWII for her sweetheart to return she married Andrew Petras in 1946 they built their house in Copley while raising three children. Marie worked various jobs throughout her life but her favorite job was working at the University of Akron in the Student Union President's Dining Room and the Bakery. She made many lifelong friends wherever she went as she loved life and loved people! She still kept in touch with her childhood girlfriends from kindergarten Madge Regallis and Maxine Peternell. She loved keeping up on current events and traveling on any kind of road trip. She will always be famous for her homemade cheesecake! She is preceded in death by husband Andrew Anthony her youngest son Jon Gregory her parents Lenhardt and Lillian Grossmayer her brothers George Rentler David Grossmayer and Leonard Grossmayer. She is survived by and will live long in the memories of daughter Karen Brandt son David Petras and loving daughter-in-law Rebecca grandchildren: Jason Brandt (Seandra) Adam Brandt (Niki) James Murrell Beth Moody (David) Kristen Holland (Bob) great-grandchildren: Emily and Justin Brandt Marlee Jade Deguardo-Brandt Madeline and Jakob Murrell Shawn and Daniel Moody and soon-to-arrive Parker Holland. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Catherine Pachipka and Florence Grossmayer along with many nieces and nephews with whom she cherished and lovingly kept in touch making sure to always call and send cards on their birthdays and anniversaries. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to Cefy Arenaza Marie's home healthcare provider and companion for the unconditional love and tender care she gave our mother grandmother great-grandmother over the last three years. Mom loved her dearly. A special thank you also goes to Milagros Vergaray who was a huge help to Marie during her final month of life. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday February 4th between 10am-1pm at Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Rd Copley OH with interment immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery.
