Margaret Downey

Margaret M. Downey, age 91, passed away on March 5, 2015 surrounded by family. Margaret was born on September 15, 1923 in New York, New York to the late James and Helen Tracey. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1942 and St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. Margaret met her future husband, Ray at a USO dance in New York City and later married on September 16, 1945. Margaret worked has a nurse at various hospitals in Connecticut and Ohio, lastly at St. Thomas Hospital. She continued her nursing career by volunteering at Hospice of Visiting Nurse. Margaret and Ray were founding members of Guardian Angels Catholic Church and enjoyed their many friendships through the 39 Club. Margaret was involved in many ministries, including the church choir and as a CCD teacher. Preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; son, Jimmy; and daughter-in-law, Jeanette Downey; she is survived by her children, Ray (Bev), John (Linda), Brian (Linda), Mary (Glenn) Pamer, Michael (Lori) and Patrick (Jodi); 14 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Calling hours will be Sunday 2-5 p.m. at the Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd. Copley, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 1686 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd. Copley, Ohio. Entombment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Guardian Angels Catholic Church.
