Marcia L. Mazak., 89, died peacefully at Ohio Living Rockynol in Akron on May 11, 2022.
Mrs. Mazak was born on June 11, 1932 in Akron, OH to Mark and Rebecca Tenney. Upon her graduation from Buchtel High School (Akron, OH), she attended the University of Akron and met her future husband, Ed.
Marcia was a mixed media artist whose career spanned five decades. She studied painting and drawing with Charles Shannon of Montgomery, AL, painting with both Brack Walker of Auburn University, and Ou Mie Shu of Albuquerque, NM. Exhibiting widely in the south and southwest, as well as northeastern Ohio, she received many awards. One notable review of the award-winning collage "Waterfall" captures her artistic prowess: "This is a work of supreme mastery in the art form and shows Mazak at her best". Her final gallery showing was in November, 2021 at the Hermitage Design & Gallery (McLean, VA).
An avid pianist, Marcia's repertoire focused upon songs from the Great American Songbook. She counted "Blue Champagne", "Manhattan", Georgia" and "Moonglow" among her favorites. Mrs. Mazak was a long term member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Akron and the University of Akron Faculty Wives Club. Marcia and Ed travelled extensively, taking numerous trips to Europe and the Caribbean, as well as an extensive visit to China and Southeast Asia.
She is survived by her son Mark (Mahnaz); her granddaughters Julia (Mark) and Suzanne; and great-granddaughters Eloise and Georgia. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Edward P. Mazak, Jr.; her daughter Sara; and her loyal canine companion Bailey.
A celebration of Mrs. Mazak's life will be held in Reston, VA at a date and time to be determined.
