Sister M. Philip the former Rose Ferlotti died on Monday October 25 2004 at St. Vincent Charity Hospital at the age of 90. She was the daughter of Philip and Caroline Ferlotti. Sister Philip entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron from St. Joseph Parish Alliance Ohio in September 1931. She celebrated 70 years of religious life this past year. In her early years Sister Philip was in food service beginning at St. Augustine Barberton in 1933. She served at Sacred Heart Academy Our Lady of the Elms Preschool St. Vincent St. Paul St. Matthew all in Akron; Sacred Heart of Mary Harrisburg; SS. Peter and Paul Doylestown; Immaculate Conception Ravenna; St. Dominic Youngstown; and SS. Peter and Paul Doylestown. The Sisters who lived in these convents appreciated the delicious meals she provided for them. After receiving her L.P.N. Sister Philip did nursing at St. Edward Home in 1965-69 1977-81 and worked part time at St. Hilary 1970-77. She also served in the Elms Infirmary in 1969-70; at St. Thomas Hospital as nurse and cared for Alzheimer patients part time. She volunteered at Hudson Day Care for several years and at the Portage County Clothing Center. In 1981 Sister Philip gave community service. In her later years she used her nursing experience by ministering to our sick and dying Sisters on numerous occasions. Sister Philip retired to the Elms Infirmary in 1998. She was transferred to Regina Health Center Richfield on May 27 2003. Sister Philip enjoyed crocheting and reading. Because of her outgoing personality she enjoyed visiting with her many friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers Joseph and Charles; sisters Angela Vuksta Nellie Gang; and sister-in-law Mary Ferlotti. She is survived by nephews Philip (Kay) Ferlotti Ronald (Corliss) Vuksta; and niece Carolyn Ferlotti all of Alliance. Calling hours are at Our Lady of the Elms Convent 1230 W. Market St. Akron on Wednesday October 27 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Elms Chapel on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Sister Philip may be made to Our Lady of the Elms-Sisters of St. Dominic Foundation.
