Lt. Col. Lucy P. Bland US Army Reserve Lucy went to be with her Lord on August 27 2005 after a short courageous battle with leukemia. She was preceded in death by her parents Francis and Angela Pinto nephew Benjamin Pinto and her sister-in-law Marilyn Pinto. She is survived by her husband Matthew G. Bland; son Andrew F. Bland; her brothers Thomas A. (Linda Parenti MD) Pinto Charles A. (Joanne I. Miller) Pinto Grays Lake IL. Lawrence A. (Cheryl E. Roe) Pinto and Frank A. Pinto Las Vegas NV; cousins John F. (Deena) Pinto MD Elgin IL Katherine (Dr. Charles) Mendenhall Albany GA Daniel (Danna) Popovich Port St. Lucie FL Great Aunt Ellen E. Rich many nieces and nephews Mr. And Mrs. Francis X. Lucy graduated from St. Matthew School Akron St. Mary High School Akron St. Edwards University Austin TX (B.A.) University of Akron (M.A.) Diploma in Nursing A.G.M.C. B.S. Life Sciences Walsh University North Canton Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Aultman Hospital Canton OH and Master of Science in Nursing Case Western Reserve University Cleveland OH Command and General Staff College US Army Reserve Lt. Col. Chief Nurse Anesthetist 256th Combat Support Hospital (Reserve). Called to active duty Operation Desert Storm Ft. Campbell KY Operation Joint Endeavor Heidelberg Germany Operation Iraqi Freedom Al Asad Air Base Iraq. She was also selected as one of 10 army nurses across the country to represent the Women's Nurse Corp of the United States Army for a celebration of military medical services held in Australia. Lucy and her family are members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Cuyahoga Falls and were active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Adult Education Committee. She and her family helped feed the homeless at St. Bernard's Church Akron. She and her husband taught their son to be a giving contributing member of their community. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or a charity of your choice. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday August 31 2005 11 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church 1905 Portage Trail. Procession will form at the Church.
