Louis Farris

Louis G. Farris Jr. 1949 - 2015 'Lou Farris, little guy from Akron, Ohio trying to make his way through life, too bad it has to end' a legend, died May 15, 2015. Born and raised in Akron, he attended Erie Island Elementary, Simon Perkins Junior High, and Buchtel High (Class of 1967). At Buchtel he was King B and an All City Lineman on the football team. After high school he went to The University of Akron (not Polytechnic yet) and earned a bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's Degree in School Administration. A teacher at Norton High School, he was loved by his students and peers. He left teaching to be a realtor and real estate developer. Buildings and houses stand today, a testament to his entrepreneurship. Louie could be found in the Chuckery, the Ledge, the Wildwood, the YMCA, Dodie's (solving world problems), St. George and many establishments throughout the Akron area travelling in his 1967 Corvette. He danced like nobody was watching and was the life of the party. He served on many boards, including YMCA, Weathervane, International Institute, St. George and boards associated with his leadership role in area real estate. He always had time to meet and help people throughout this community. He was a founder of Charity Fundraisers which threw a big party every year to benefit kids with wishes. Who hadn't gone to an Aladdin function? Louie enlisted in the Ohio National Guard and was activated April - May 1970 to guard overpasses during the Teamster strike. Never married and without children he was like a father to his nieces and nephew as well as the children of friends. He was always a teacher. Louie ran, swam, biked, competed in road races, triathlons, and played handball at a high level. He was always the most popular person in aerobics classes and never seemed to tire. Exercise was an important daily activity. There will be no calling hours and a private interment will be held at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Your prayers are always appreciated. He is predeceased by his parents (Louis and Julia Farris) and niece Darah Farris. He is survived by his sister Louise Farris and her children, Michael and Julie, brother George, 'the wife' Debbie and niece D. Maureen Farris (Jeremiah Currier).
