Lela Kanis

Our beautiful loving mother grandmother and great-grandmother left us on May 2 2009. Born April 26 1930 in Barberton Ohio to Ralph and Ruth (Berger) Wiles Lela graduated from Barberton High School in 1948. She converted to Catholicism and on July 2 1949 she married the love of her life Ted and together they raised 8 children in the course of their 59-year marriage. As a full-time housewife she provided her family with happiness laughter understanding support and endless love. She was also a member of Annunciation Church for nearly 60 years and was a past member of the St. Joseph the Worker study club. Preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Ted; brother Charles Wiles; sister Delores Schrock; cousin/sister Thelma Hanic; sisters-in-law Margaret Ciganik Marian Nolan and Irene Chitty. Survived by children Marcia Pat (Tom Wolfe) Connie Price Ted (Mary) Kris Rick (Kathy) Heidi English and Scott (Mary Beth); 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren (#13 due within next 2 weeks); brothers Ralph (Margie) and Donald (Ruth) Wiles; brother- and sisters-in-law Edward (Marie) Kanis and Helen Kougl; as well as many nieces nephews and dear friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday May 5 2009 at 10:00 AM at Annunciation Catholic Church 87 Broad St. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. Akron on Monday from 4-7 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Annunciation Catholic Church.
