Lauretta Mary Burke of Akron died Saturday night February 2 2013 at the age of 86. Her late husband James F. Burke Sr passed last November. The happy couple created a family legacy of nine children twenty-three grandchildren five great grandchildren and growing. They leave behind their children: Jim Burke of Bath; John and Cindy Burke of Wyomissing PA; Mary-Beth and Michael McDonald of Lititz PA; Laurie and Stan Hironaka of Moraga CA; Peg and Steve Zimmer of Copley; Dan and Anne Burke of Spring TX; Bill and Julie Burke of Medina; Maureen and John Muldoon of Newbury Park CA; Bridget and Vince Beringer of Cranberry Twp PA; as well as her siblings Dave Jim Betty Bob (deaceased) Bill and Denny. Lauretta was lucky enough to spend her last birthday with all of her children. Lauretta was born in Chicago on January 24 1927 to David and Catherine Hearne. She was the oldest of seven children and attended Mount Mary College in Milwaukee WI. Lauretta met Jim during her college years and often told friends that she graduated college with honors and was married four days later on June 5 1948 time was of the essence. During the years that she was not pregnant Lauretta worked as a medical technologist at Children's Hospital and later at Barberton Citizen's Hospital. She also was the author of the yet to be published book 'Cooking on High' a book she often threatened to write. Throughout her life Lauretta focused on the four main things she found to be most important: her Catholic faith family Irish heritage and cards. In addition to being an avid church-goer she also expressed her faith through her decades of participation in Christ Child Society. As for cards she will forever remain the queen of them or jack if we're talking euchre. Any guests who stayed at the Burke residence often awoke to the sound of a shuffling deck in anticipation of a game of bridge pinochle euchre or anything in between. She will be deeply missed. A match made in heaven Jim and Lauretta were married for sixty-four years and now they can happily reside together.
