Laura Peters

Laura Peters, age 78, passed away on February 3, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born August 19, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio, the first of two children for Cornelius and Faith Peters, who have preceded her in death. Laura was a gentle and kind woman who lived her life in service of her family and relished the time she got to spend with them. Family was always important to Laura. She moved out of state twice: once, shortly after her marriage in order to be with her husband on a naval base and once for almost three years to live in Arizona. Both times, the distance between her and her family in Ohio was too great a distance to tolerate. A devoted mother, she raised two sons after her husband abandoned her and she infused them with independence and taught them, by example, to be generous with grace in the world. Laura truly marveled at small children and smaller animals, showering them with love and patience.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas (Joyce) Peters; her sons, Steve and Marc Brightman; her daughters-in-law, Theresa and Tari; her granddaughters, Taylor and Karley Brightman; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Calling hours will be Friday, 5-8pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio 44304. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30am Saturday at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St. Akron, Ohio 44303. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
