Larry Shay

Larry Shay passed away on Sunday August 8th after a brave and hard fought battle with lung cancer. He left this earth to be with God in peace and surrounded by his family. A lifelong and devoted resident of Akron Ohio he is survived in death by his beloved wife Mary Ann Shay (Brennan); children Maureen Shay and Joe Shay (Allison); and his three grandchildren the very special Natalie Brian and Brooke. He is also survived by his loving sisters Gloria Barak June Abraham and Kathy Shay as well as many nieces and nephews. Larry would be very upset if we didn't mention that he is also survived by his best friend and constant companion Chico. Larry was a graduate of South High School and the University of Akron and spent his career as a teacher and real estate salesman. The most important thing in Larry's life was his family and friends and he derived the most pleasure spending time with his many relatives and his great friend group appropriately referred to as 'the gang'. He also enjoyed playing golf and watching and cheering for all of the Cleveland sports teams. Calling hours will be Wednesday August 11th from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange Street Akron. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday August 12th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales 4019 Manchester Rd Akron.
