Kevin McSweeney

December 6, 1953 — October 12, 2024

Kevin Collin (KC) McSweeney peacefully passed away October 12, 2024 in hospice care at Wyant Woods with his son Ethan holding his hand. KC, who attended St.

Sebastian Grade School and Walsh Jesuit High School in Akron, Ohio, was a merry prankster and punster from an early age. He loved to tell jokes and he never missed an opportunity to invoke a pun. He maintained his good humor and love for jokes despite suffering from schizophrenia from the age of eighteen. He overcame the many hospitalizations through the years with a resilience forged in fire and steeled by his enduring faith. Rather than succumb to his debilitating illness, he overcame it through humor and a highly developed compassion borne of a life deeply felt. He was particularly compassionate toward the underprivileged and downtrodden because he

understood their pain. He loved to sing and play his guitar, most especially for children and elders in care centers. He did not shy away from life, but rather embraced it fully, living in Germany as a young man and traveling all over the United States, working all kinds of jobs. KC had a prodigious memory, invariably only for the good times in his life. He would regale his siblings with detailed childhood memories that brought their shared

youth back to life. KC had an open heart and never hid his vulnerability. Wherever he went, laughter followed and he made a big impression. KC was the embodiment of the famous Oscar Wilde quote:

"Life is too important to take seriously". May he rest in peace.

Casey is survived by his son Ethan Goodwin; his siblings, Kathryn McSweeney, Edward McSweeney, MaryAnne McSweeney and Peggy Penberthy; his nieces Ariana McSweeney and Erin Penberthy; his nephew Liam McSweeney; and his great nieces Jacklyn and Lilah Hiller.

KC was predeceased by his sister Ellen McSweeney.
