Kathleen Keener

August 27, 1931 — September 5, 2013

Kathleen Cullinan Keener peacefully entered God's presence on September 5 2013. She was born in Akron on August 27 1931 to Michael and Hazel Cullinan. She graduated from Old Trail School before graduating from Trinity Washington University Washington D.C. with a degree in the liberal arts; she attended the University of Akron where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught many happy and admiring third graders at Schumacher Schools. Kathleen married Jeff Keener on April 19 1958- a beautiful spring day- which began a union that lasted more than 55 happy years. Kathleen was a long time active member of The Junior League of Akron the Diggers and Weeders Garden Club as well as a number of other charitable institutions in the Akron area. She was preceded in death by her parents Hazel and Michael Cullinan and her sister Patricia Lee Cohill brother-in-law Robert A. Cohill and nephew John Cohill. She is survived by her husband Jefferson W.; their four children Marian (James) DeVoe Patricia Lee (Charles) Mazzola Elizabeth (Steven) Arn and Jefferson W. Keener III all of Akron and her four grandchildren Ashley DeVoe Cullin Arn Frances Brotherton and Nina Mazzola and one great grandchild. She also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian Church 476 Mull Ave. Akron Ohio 44320 on Monday September 9 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers donations in her honor may be made to St. Sebastian Church Old Trail School (2315 Ira Rd. Bath Ohio 44210) or a charity of your choice.
