Karen L. Kalavity (Murgatroyd) 70 of Fairlawn passed away peacefully Thursday August 16 2012 with her family by her side. Karen was preceded in death by her husband Louis her parents John and Ruth stepfather William Stack sister Sally Pidwell and brother-in-law Gary Moor. She leaves behind her children Karl Kristine Keri-Ann and Kevin of Columbus and grandson Spencer Kalavity; brothers John (Kathy) Ted (Rose) Bob (Bev) and Tom (Barb); sisters Susie (Larry) Nida Margie Moor and Sherry (Bob) Windle along with many nieces nephews cousins and friends. Karen worked in the Loans Department for The Firestone Bank from 1959-1968. While attending The University of Akron she was a member of the Gamma Beta Sorority. She was also a member of the Fairlawn City Women's Club for over 30 years having served as president and chairing numerous committees. Karen shared a close bond with her grandson Spencer who was often referred to as the 'fifth child' due to their genuine and loving relationship. It was this bond that kept Karen determined and fighting through her illness. Her passions for her family and being involved with numerous community activities will always be remembered. Calling Hours will be held at the Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Rd. COPLEY on Tuesday August 21 2012 from 5-8 PM. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday August 22 2012 12:30 PM at St. Hilary Parish 2750 W. Market St. Fairlawn. Funeral procession will be formed at the church for interment in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
