Josephine (Josie) Smith 85, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2014. Born in Carnegie Pennsylvania, Josie had previously lived in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania before relocating to Akron Ohio for the past 2 ½ years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Edward 'Bud' Smith, sisters Pauline Messina, Jean Maimone, and Lena Battaglia, and brothers, Joseph Battaglia and Santo Battaglia. She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Keith) Cohn, and Nancy Jo (Chuck) Kastor, grandchildren Jennifer Lynn and Keith Edward Cohn and Danielle Kastor, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. Josie always enjoyed life. She and her husband, Bud, loved to travel, go dancing, go out with friends, listen to music, and watch the sunset. She was a great cook, seamstress, and member of several neighborhood card clubs, as well as the Rosedale Garden Club. She enjoyed a fun round of golf, shopping for the best sales and later took up cake decorating and painting. She loved dogs, and took great care of the families' many dogs, as well as her granddogs. The family would like to especially thank Rockynol Retirement Community and Hospice Care of Akron General's Visiting Nurse Service, for showing her such love and compassion at the end of her life here. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian Church in Akron on Monday at 10:30 a.m., with burial services to follow on Tuesday at Mt. Hope Cemetery Chapel in Penn Hills at 11:00 a.m.
