Joseph M. Weirtz passed away on June 2nd at his home in Mogadore with all of his loving family present at his bedside. Joe was born in Akron, Ohio on April 12, 1942 to Paul and Mary (Bonfield) Weirtz. Joe attended Annunciation grade school and graduated from Central High School In 1961. After high school, Joe served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He then applied for an apprentice meat cutters program with the A&P food markets and worked for 42 years as a meat cutter for A&P, Acme, and Tops before retiring in 2007. Joe was a lifetime member of Annunciation (Visitation of Mary) Parish where he volunteered at the fish fries and served as an usher for many years. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Peter, Dennis and Daniel. He is survived by his daughters Mary Weirtz, Jackie (Dan) Thompson, Elizabeth (Matt) Waterhouse, son Michael, step children Dean (Becky) Miller and Julie Miller, sisters Rita Beaman and Beth Konkel, brother Bill (Clara), nine grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends. Joe was proud to be a veteran and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Mogadore V.F.W. having a few brews. Joe was an avid Norte Dame fan. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, June 7th from 4 pm until 7 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. East Exchange Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Thursday, June 8th at Visitation of Mary (Annunciation) Church at the corner of Broad and Kent Streets. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Visitation of Mary Soup Kitchen or a charity of choice. A Special thank you to the nurses and staff of Summa Hospice and Falls Village that took such good care of Joe during his illness.
