Joseph Hartlaub 82 went home to be with the Lord on April 19 2004. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and partner of 50 years Ann. Joe leaves a legacy of kindness humor and warmth and was unceasingly optimistic as he traveled through life's journey brightening the lives of those who knew and loved him. Joe was born on June 26 1921 in Covington KY to the late Joseph and Mamie Hartlaub and was preceded in death by sisters Viola Hopper and Frances Franxmann. He attended St. Meinrad Seminary and graduated from Xavier University before serving in the armed forces during World War II. Joe was a life member of the Fairlawn VFW Post 329. Joe was an area stockbroker for many years until his retirement in 1986. In addition he served the City of Fairlawn first as a councilman in the 1960's and then as Mayor from 1972-1981. Of particular joy to Joe were his children and grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed traveling and was an avid baseball fan participating in baseball and softball leagues for many years. He is survived and greatly missed by his loving family Joseph (Lisa) Hartlaub of Westerville Chris (Vicki) Hartlaub of Rittman Deborah (Luis) Rosa of Akron brother-in-law and sister-in-law Vince and Jackie Del Medico many grandchildren nieces nephews relatives and countless friends who were touched by his zest for life and sweet spirit. Special thanks to his caregivers and friends at Sunrise of Bath assisted care facility who provided him with affection and care these past 8 months. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday April 24 2004 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Hilary Church. Internment at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call the Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Rd.
