John Young

John W. Young 86 of Akron passed away peacefully Tuesday July 2 2013. John was born and raised in Marietta OH by the late Edwin and Nellie Young. After graduating high school in 1944 he enlisted into the Navy serving in WWII until July of 1946. John retired from BF Goodrich in 1985 after 39 years as a product manager of upholstery. John was an avid reader; reading Dr. Seuss books to his children grandchildren and reading the New York Times. His favorite pastimes included trout fishing in the Elk River in Bergoo WV being a diehard New York Yankees fan and listening to his favorite artists. John's greatest joy was being 'Pappa' to all nine of his grandchildren and spending time with his family. John is survived by his loving wife Jean of 62 years; children Kristi (Doug) James Leslie (Sevren) Maynard Matt (Lindsay) Young; grandchildren Caroline Callie Ryan Savannah Olivia Joshua Cullen Abby and Carter. He is also survived by three nephews Andy Mark and Dan. John is preceded in death by his four siblings most recently his brother David F. Young. A memorial service will be held Friday July 5 2013 2PM at the Hummel Funeral Home 3475 Copley Rd. Copley OH 44321. Visitation will be held from 12PM - 2PM at the funeral home PRIOR to the service.
