John Thorpe

John Arthur Thorpe III 85 passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 24 2013. John was born May 16 1927 in Cleveland to the late Josephine and John Arthur Thorpe Jr. He graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1944 and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from The University of Notre Dame in 1948. He received his Bachelor of Laws from Western Reserve University in 1951. John served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Aldebaran as a Classified Material Control Officer in the early 1950's. John was a true gentleman stoic and strong. A doting father and grandfather who always had a gift for his grandchildren every time he saw them. He enjoyed summer vacations loved attending his grandchildrens' sporting and school events and never missed a Notre Dame football game whether on television or by traveling to South Bend to cheer on his beloved Notre Dame with his family. Preceded in death father John A. Thorpe Jr. mother Josephine Moran Thorpe brothers; James and William sister Joanne Morrison he is survived by his son John Arthur Thorpe IV (Wendy) daughters; Katherine (Brian) Martucci Elizabeth (Barry) Tavolier grandchildren; J.D. and Sydney Thorpe; Barbara Natalie James and Kristina Martucci; Brian Katherine and Elizabeth Tavolier sister-in-law Shirley Thorpe and many dear nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank his friends at the Merriman for the wonderful care given to John over the last 4 years. He truly felt at home and genuinely loved. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Vincent-St. Mary High School Endowment Fund 15 N. Maple Street Akron 44303. Mass of Christian burial will take place at St. Vincent Church 164 W. Market Street Akron 44303 on Monday April 29 2013 at 10:30 AM. Calling hours will begin at 9:30 AM prior to the Mass AT the church. Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family
