John Springer

September 23, 1914 — April 10, 2004

John Springer passed away at his home on April 10 2004. He was 89 years old and had been very active and in excellent health until the last year of his life. John was born in Akron Ohio. John was the first of three sons born to Stephen & Mary. He served in World War II and spent his working life at General Tire where he retired as a General Foreman at 62 after 40 years of service. He enjoyed golf before retirement but became bored with it after retirement. So for the next 20 years he dedicated his time energy and resources to improving and landscaping the grounds of his lifelong parish Annunciation. He made an immeasurable difference and the grounds won the Akron Beautification Award many many years thanks to his efforts. He enjoyed spending his last seven winters in California with his daughter. John and his wife Ethel were married for 58 years. She passed away in November 1996. John is also preceeded in death by his brother Steve who was killed in France during World War II and his brother Joe who passed away last year. Dad was a very caring kind loving and generous man. He is and will continue to be greatly missed. He leaves his dedicated son John M. Springer and John's wife Wanda Schuckert his daughter Sylvia Springer Steding Tom Gruber his sisters-in-law Eleanor Springer and Ruby Burdette and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves special friends Chuck Hamilton and Fran Olechnowicz many kind neighbors and friends from Turner's and the ''PL.'' The family would like to offer a special thanks to the caregivers ''his angels'' Carol Irene and Lois...and to his other angels...the wonderful people of Hospice of Summa who aided us during this time. Calling hours will be at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. on Tuesday April 13 2004 from 3-7 p.m. A mass honoring his life will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. May the angels watch over him. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Summa 525 East Market Street P.O. Box 2090 Akron OH 44398.
