John Rebenack

February 10, 1918 — September 1, 2006

John H. Rebenack 88 of Copley who served as Director of the Akron-Summit County Public Library system for many years died on Friday September 1 2006. A WWII veteran John was active in many organizations including Torch Club Kiwanis American Cancer Society and local state and federal library and civic activities. His family is proud of his extensive accomplishments especially receiving the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Carnegie-Mellon University and his inclusion in Who's Who In America since 1967. He recently received an award for 50 years distinguished service in the Downtown Kiwanis Club of Akron. He leaves his wife of 34 years Frances Rebenack daughter Christine Hayes and husband Clair of Pittsburgh step-daughter Dianne Demko and husband Dan of Copley and daughter-in-law Bea Rebenack of Rootstown. He also leaves 10 grandchildren 11 great-grandchildren and sisters Edith Garner of Gainesville FL and Helen Wentzel of S. Weymouth MA. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Carrie Rebenack first wife Dorothy and son Chuck. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held Tuesday September 5 2006 at 11 AM at Hummel Funeral Home COPLEY 3475 Copley Rd. with an hour of calling prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to Ridgewood Healthcare Center 3558 Ridgewood Rd. Copley OH 44321 or to Hospice of Visiting Nurse 3358 Ridgewood Rd. Akron OH 44333.
