John Murphy

July 21, 1933 — November 30, 2003

John Daly (Jack) Murphy 70 died November 30 2003 at his home after a brief illness. Jack was born and raised in LaCrosse WI son of William Leo and Dade Murphy. He attended Loras College in Dubuque Iowa and served as a PFC in the Army. Jack then joined Gateway Transportation working in various sales positions throughout the country. In 1975 Jack and Judy moved to Akron Ohio where he served as V.P. of Sales for Miller Transfer Company for 25 years. After enjoying retirement for two years Jack went back to trucking serving as Sales Manager for F.W. Madden Trucking in Akron until his death. He loved every aspect of the trucking industry and left an indelible impression with everyone he met through the years. He was like a father to his salesmen and treated them like family. Jack was an active member of both St. Vincent's Parish in Akron and St. Mary's Parish in Hudson. Jack was preceded in death by his infant son Timothy parents Leo and Dade Murphy and brother Terry Murphy. He is survived by his wife of 45 years the former Judith Bruha as well as eight children: Kate (Lou) Emeterio Ann (Kevin) Ryan John (Diane) Murphy Margie (Jim) Conway Tracy (Greg) Fick Jenny (Seamus) Kerrigan Leo Murphy Carl (Alyssa) Murphy 20 grandchildren sister Jane McCormick and brother Michael Murphy. He left a legacy of laughter and love through his family and many friends. Jack's sense of humor and gusto for life will be greatly missed -- he truly was ''one of a kind''. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday December 4 2003 at 10:00am at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. on Wednesday from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Fr. Corrigan Education Fund St. Mary's Lifelong Adult Ministry or the Christ Child Society. Or as Jack said ''If they really cared they'd send flowers too-HA!
