Joe Tona

Joe R. Tona, age 82 , passed away on April 13, 2017 at his residence after a long illness. Born on July 14, 1934 in Gadsden, Alabama to the late Joseph and Irene Tona. He was a machinist and enjoyed working on cars and watching Nascar races. Preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Tona; sister-in-law, Judy Tona; nieces, Irene Tona, Debbie Lamtman and Beth Tona and nephew, Tom Tona; he is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley; children, Cheryl Tona of Akron, Joe and John Tona of Palm Springs, California, Gina (Rob) MIller of Cathedral City, California and Jody Hegwald of Las Vegas, Nevada; step-son, Michael (Kim) Erskine of Ridgecrest, California; nephew, Jerry (Lori) Tona, Jr. of Akron and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Monday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Akron, Ohio, where friends may call from 12:00-1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
