Joan Phipps

Joan M. Phipps, 82, formerly of Akron, received her wings and took the stairway to heaven on July 8, 2015 after a brief illness. She let us know that she arrived safely and is now at peace and enjoying a family reunion with all her loved ones who were there to greet her! Joan retired from Goodyear Aerospace/Loral where she worked as a data entry operator and then moved to Florida were she spent the last 19 years enjoying the sunshine and working in her yard. She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Mary Bauer; brother, Paul Bauer; sisters Mary Louise Brinker & Delores Myers; and husband of 57 years, James Phipps. She is survived by sister Ruth Jost; children, Jeff Phipps, Jonilynn (Barry) Schreffler, Jennifer (Ron) Fraser, James Sean Phipps and her loving puppy Bella; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron, on Thursday, July 16th from 5 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, July 17th at 10 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 300 E. Tallmadge Ave., Akron, Ohio. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lane Purcell Hospice, 2452 Cr 526, Sumterville, FL 33585; or the Alzheimer's Association.
