Jean Giannone (nee Bidwell) died on April 2, 2018. We are better for having known her. Jean held no grudges, could dance the night away, and loved the company of people. Strong, confident, and tender, she was a loving mother, a caring wife, and a gentle soul. A woman of strong Christian values, she knew how to give love and show kindness. If you cried, she held you. If you were in pain, she helped you. If you were in need, she gave to you. She loved her family, her plants, and all animals (except maybe spiders and snakes). A Registered Nurse and U.S. Army Vet, Jean, 69, was born in New London, Connecticut, in 1949. In late 1976, only six months after their first date, she wed the luckiest sailor in the U.S. Navy, Mike, in Charleston, South Carolina. Thus began a nearly 42-year-long love affair. She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Beatrice ('Billy'; nee Mattos) Bidwell; mother-in-law Charlotte (nee Beam) and father-in-law Robert Giannone Sr.; sister-in-law Mary Louise Giannone; brother-in-law Timothy James Giannone; and sister-in-law Nellie (nee Bornstine) Giannone. Those who remain to remember and continue to love Jean are her husband Mike; son James Bidwell-Giannone; daughter Erin Bidwell-Giannone and son-in-law Chris Baumgardner; sister Carol Bidwell and nephew Peter Werowinski; brother David, sister-in-law Pris (nee Husband), and niece Cait; sister Nancy and brother-in-law David Valetta; brother-in-law Robert Giannone Jr. and nephew Jeff. She made us better by simply being a part of our lives. She is loved and will be missed - everyday. Calling hours will be held at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange St., Akron, Ohio, on Sunday, April 8, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Services will be at Hummel on Monday, April 9, at 10:00 a.m.
