James Robertson

James Stuart Robertson of Wadsworth Ohio died early Sunday April 14 2013 a month shy of his 87th birthday. Jim was born in Detroit to the late Chester L. & Mabel Robertson. At 17 Jim enlisted in the US Army Air Force proudly serving his country during WWII. After the war Corporal Robertson returned to Indianapolis to complete high school graduating from Shortridge High in 1946. Prior to his senior year at Purdue University Jim married Dolores Jean Szynski of Detroit in 1950. Jim graduated from Purdue University in 1951 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering; earning his Professional Engineering License in later years. In July 1951 Jim joined Firestone as staff engineer. In 1953 he was assigned to the Firestone Industrial Products Plant in Noblesville Indiana as the resident engineer for the construction of the Air Springs plant. In 1958 Jim moved to Firestone's International Division accepting an assignment as Chief Engineer in Bombay India where he & his family lived for 5 years. After Bombay Jim accepted assignments near Bethune France & Salinas California. In 1968 Jim joined Goodyear in the position of Senior Engineer. Throughout his 22 years at Goodyear he held various positions including Chief Engineer Section Head and Consultant of Process Engineering. His various assignments required frequent international travel including trips to Singapore Japan South Africa Belgium France and Germany. Jim retired from Goodyear in 1991. Jim enjoyed home remodeling projects crossword puzzles reading golf gardening & taking his family on long Sunday drives visiting nearby parks or points of interest. During his retirement years he looked forward to the times spent with his grandchildren. Jim is predeceased by his siblings Catherine Taylor Virginia 'Peggy' Cunningham & Kenneth Robertson. Jim is survived by Dolores his beloved wife of 62 years; daughters Christine Nagy (Jim) of South Carolina; Laura Gretzinger (George) of Swanton Ohio; Phyllis Robertson of Akron; son James R. Robertson (Lynne) of Akron grandchildren Nick Frankenhauser (Maddy) Heidi Frankenhauser Kate Perrine Emily Rapposelli (Colden) Chelsea Brittany & Hayleigh Robertson and great-grandsons Nolan & Ethan Jim is also survived by his Aunt Freda McKenney brother-in-law Tom Cunningham & several nieces nephews & cousins. On May 3rd Jim will be interred at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery Rittman Ohio with a private family ceremony. A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday May 4 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church 2726 West Market St Akron Ohio 44333. Pastor Jean M. Hansen will preside.
