James Gobel Miller Jr 89 died Monday January 10 2011 at Bath Manor Special Care Center. Jim was born in Hardinsburg KY on December 18 1921 to Georgia (nee Smallbridge) and James G. Miller of Mogadore OH. Jim graduated from Granger High School in Medina County in 1939. Following graduation Jim began a 43 year career at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company interrupted by military service during World War Two. Jim served in the U.S. Navy between September 1941 and September 21 1945 as a Carpenter's Mate First Class. Following the war Jim returned to work at Goodyear. Soon after retiring from Goodyear Jim began a 15 year career at Ritzman's Pharmacy. Jim was a life member of the American Legion Post 209 where he served in various leadership roles including Post Commander editor of the 209er head of the military funeral honor guard and Bowling League Secretary for 42 years. In 1963 Jim was honored as the Post 209 Legionnaire of the Year. Jim was also a 54 year member of Voiture 468 of the 40'n'8 which he served as Chevaux De Gare. Jim was also a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 349 Fairlawn) of the United States. Jim's wife of 66 years Mary (nee Cox) died on June 17 2009. He is survived by his son Thomas (Kimberly) daughters Kathy Musci-Durnes (Edward) and Patty Harding (Howard) both of Akron and Theresa Miller of Astoria OR; his grandchildren Michael Matthew Taylor Miller and Sara Miller Roxbury (Robert); Brian Musci; and great-granddaughters Josie and Bailey Musci. Cremation has already occurred. Military services will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve Veterans Cemetery in Rittman on Saturday June 4 2011 with Reverend Tim Temerson of the Unitarian-Universalist Church officiating.
