James Jahant

August 29, 1919 — June 19, 2006

James H. Jahant 88 of Winnetka formerly of Glencoe died June 19 in Evanston. Mr. Jahant was born Aug. 29 1919 in Akron Ohio where he won second place in the first Soap Box Derby in 1934. He graduated from Holy Cross College in 1943 and Officers Candidate School Columbia University in New York in 1943. He was a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the U.S. Navy and landed on Normandy Beach on June 6 1944. He worked at Newsweek from 1960 to 1980. Survivors include his wife JoAnn Jahant; one son John of Chicago; one daughter Marianne Jahant Yokiel of Cleveland Ohio; two grandchildren Kyle and Kelly Yokiel of Cleveland Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to Lake Shore Unitarian Society 620 Lincoln Ave. Winnetka IL 60093 or a favored charity.
