Ione Friess

Ione Beyer Friess born December 8 1921 passed away on May 15 2013 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Albert 'Bud' Friess parents James and Ethel Beyer brother Donald and sisters Betty Lord and Peggy Sollenberger. Ione attended the University of Akron where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education. She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and remained active in the alumni association until her death. She taught school for 27 years in the Akron Public School system with the majority of her time spent teaching first and second grade at Portage Path Elementary School. After retiring Ione was an active volunteer with Witan Sumner Home Summit County Historical Society and The Akron General Medical Center Service League. Ione is survived by her children Christine Mays (Jerry) of Pleasant Lake Indiana Polly Friess and Michael Friess (Mary); grandchildren Bryan Mays (Leah) Karyn M. Chrstenson (Kevin) Ione Friess and Alexandra Friess and four great grandchildren. Deacon Terry Peacock will officiate the memorial service 6:00 p.m. Monday May 20 at the Hummel Funeral Home Copley Chapel (3475 Copley Rd.) where friends may call from 4-6 p.m. Private interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will take place.
