Helen Richards

Helen L. (Betty) Richards 89 passed away on December 18 2012. Betty was our Mom Nana Aunt and Friend with a terrific smile warm hands and an open heart. Though she had lost a step in her last years you may have known her as a charter board member and volunteer at St. Thomas Hospital a staunch supporter of Our Lady of the Elms and an early promoter with her late husband Bill of the American Golf Classic. But most of all she was our mom and leaves a family who will deeply mourn her: daughters Carol (Bernie) Ruhaak Suzanne K. Richards Pat Schaffer Debbie (Herman) Allison Terri Richards and Lyn (Chris) Waters; grandchildren Bill Ruhaak Jeff Ruhaak Dave Bender Evan Bender Kris Gaug Scott (Kelly) Schaffer Nick Gaug Greg Gaug Taylor Bond Andrew Waters and Jaret Waters; great-grandchildren Brian Ruhaak Brad Ruhaak Caitlin Schaffer Westyn Bender Madison Bond Connor Schaffer Casee Schaffer and Cameron Bond; nieces Susan Schobert and Peggy Schobert; sister-in-law Sally Schobert; and other relatives. Betty was preceded in death by her husband William C. Richards; her parents Herbert and Helen Link; her sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Robert Schobert; and her grandson Herbie Gaug. She was the matriarch and the heart of our family and will be greatly missed. We would like to thank our special friends and angels who helped her and us on this journey. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Hilary Church 2750 West Market St. on Saturday December 22 2012 at 11 A.M. Interment will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park Fairlawn. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home (COPLEY) 3475 Copley Rd. on Friday December 21 2012 from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Fairlawn Fire and Rescue Hospice of Summa or the Richards' Scholarship Fund at Our Lady of the Elms.
