Helen Mellion

Helen Mellion died on Thursday April 9, 2015 after 97 years filled with faith, family and much love. A lifelong Akron resident born on April 18, 1917, Helen was a longtime St. Vincent parishioner. She is remembered by her large family and many friends for her strong faith, devotion to her family, quick wit, and kindness. Helen loved sewing and literature. Her family loved to eat her cooking so much that in 2006 they memorialized her beloved recipes in a family cookbook. Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Louis, her son Dr. Francis Mellion (Laureen), her son-in-law Daniel Unk (Lois) and her sister Sophie Schafer; she is survived by her daughters, Irene Aldrich (James) of Chicago, Illinois, Marianne McDowell (Robert) of Fairlawn, Lois Unk of Cuyahoga Falls, and Betty Minich (Lawrence) of Tucson, Arizona; her sons, Dr. Joseph Mellion (Dianne) of Bath and Dr. Nicholas Mellion (Jeanette) of Jackson Township; 17 grandchildren; soon 22 great grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Virginia Mellion of Akron. Helen's family thanks the caregivers at Concordia at Sumner and Akron General VNS Hospice Care for their commitment and dedication to her care. The family will receive friends Tuesday 5-8 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday 9:30 a.m. at St. Hilary Catholic Church. Interment Mt.
