Helen Herhold

Helen T. Herhold the heart of our family was called home to be with her Lord on February 26 2012 after 97 years. She joins her husband Ray her parents Andrew and Eva brothers Jack Tony Andy Fr. Frank and Martin Botzman her sisters Mary Shafer Catherine Beal Edith Halloran and their spouses and her grandson Jeff Cooper. Helen was born in Akron on September 23 1914 and lived most of her life there. She married Ray Herhold in July of 1938 and moved to their house in Ellet where she lived until she was 95. Our stay-at-home mom was very involved in the PTA and other school related activities while we were growing up. She was a long time member of Visitation of Mary (formerly Annunciation) parish where she made baptism stoles for many years and enjoyed membership in the St. Anne's Ladies Guild. Helen was a volunteer usher at E.J. Thomas Hall for over 20 years. She was a gifted cook and baker and put these skills to good use as a member of Christ Child Society. She loved all things especially traveling with family family lunches and dinners flower and vegetable gardening and card playing. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sons Tom (Victoria) and Mike (Diana) Herhold and daughter Rita (John) Burkley and daughter-in-law Marian Verbanas; her brother George Botzman and sisters Eva (Paul) Chandler and Teresa Howiler. She leaves her grandchildren John (Jean) Herhold Mark (Kim) Herhold Kris Cooper Lyn (Tony) Bridges Ray Herhold Judy (Scott) Driskel Terese Herhold Dan (Nicola Mucci) Herhold Mike and Jonathan Burkley. Great Grandma Herhold leaves Matt and Alex Bridges Jessica Julia and Madalynn Herhold and Anya Driskel. Calling hours will be from 4-7 PM on Friday at Hummel Funeral home 500 E. Exchange St. Akron 44304. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday March 3rd at Visitation of Mary Church (formerly Annunciation) 55 Broad St Akron 44305.
