Harold Kain Snavely was born in Akron on October 15, 1927 to the late Glenn Albert and Clara (nee Kain) Snavely and passed away on May 17, 2016. Harold lived in Akron most of his life and attended East High School from there he entered the Army near the end of WWII. He served in France, Germany and Austria and was awarded the Army of the Occupation Medal. Harold was a DAV lifetime member. He is survived by his lifelong friends Mike Postiach and Merle R. Mollenkopf, Jr. Harold Snavely was a sports maven and loved to bet with bookies who were soon sorry. We would sit and play rummy while discussing old movies of which he was an encyclopedia of knowledge. He loved the scandal sheets. An avid reader he would sometimes read for days on end with little rest. Harold was my friend, he was my adopted father and I will miss him. We would like to thank all the nurses, staff and doctors at both Akron City Hospital (Summa) and The Arbors at Streetsboro for all the excellent care and comfort given to Harold the last months of his life. The infections, dementia and other complications made him a handful. God bless you all. In addition, the Veteran's Hospital always made sure he received top notch care. He loved the nurses and staff at the VA on Waterloo Rd. and they loved him. At the Arbors, it was sometimes comical to watch him barking orders while tooling around in his wheelchair as if he owned the place. There will be a graveside service 10:00 am Wednesday at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Akron Public Library.
