Harold Russell

Harold L. Russell 87 years young passed away Monday May 23 at home after a long courageous battle with COPD. Harold was born on November 1 1923 in Waverly Ohio to Charles and Lillie (Brooks) Russell. He spent his early years in Akron Ohio where he met his future wife of 65 years Marie (Ihrig) in grade school. He served in the US Navy during the latter years of World War II. After their marriage on April 26 1946 Harold moved with Marie to Sharon Twp (Medina Co.) in August 1948 where they raised their family and lived for 60 years. He retired in 1987 from the Akron Equipment Company after 42 years of service as a welder and was a member of American Legion Post 473 Copley Ohio. In December 2008 they moved to Chambrel at Montrose. Harold was preceded in death by his Son Gary M.; his Parents; his Brothers Donald Charles Monroe and John; Sisters Alice Carney and Ida Brown. He is survived by his loving wife Marie son David (Jacqui Raw) of Sharon Twp. daughters Mary Anne Chapa (Robert) of Columbus OH and Susan Nichting (Michael) of Polk OH; Special daughter-in-law Sheryl (Steve) Simplican of New Waterford OH; Grandchildren Deanna Stacy Amy (Tim) Miller Debra Jennifer (Ben) Thoma Tim Wright Brent Chapa Molly Chapa Gary (Jessica) Richard (Amy) Christa (Joe) Vlosich and Valerie (Chad) Riedman; 17 Great Grandchildren; Sister Leona (Douglas) Brobst; and many loving nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Friday May 27 at Hummel Funeral Home COPLEY 3475 Copley Rd from 4-8 PM. Military services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday May 31st at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10175 Rawiga Rd Rittman where the committal procession will form.
