Harold Dixon

Harold V. Dixon Jr. 'Hal ' 62 of Akron passed away peacefully on Thursday January 10 2013. Hal was born in Cleveland to Harold Sr. and Shirley Dixon. He was a 1968 graduate of Solon High School. On July 17 1970 Hal was in a car accident resulting in injuries making him a permanent quadriplegic. Despite Hal's condition he went on to obtain his B.A. in Political Science (1973) his M.A. in Political Science both from Kent State University and finally his Juris Doctorate from the University Of Akron Law School in 1977. Hal was notably the first and only quadriplegic to attend and graduate from the University of Akron Law School. On August 18 1973 Hal married his loving and devoted wife Paulette. He worked for 24 years for the Summit County Government at the Real Estate and Estate Tax Department. Among Hal's favorite activities was his close friendship with Neil Diamond and his four adoring golden retrievers all of which were named after Neil Diamond songs; Ree Shilo Holly and Brookie. Hal is preceded in death by his father Harold V. Dixon Sr. He will truly be missed by his beloved wife Paulette Dixon mother Shirley Dixon brother David Dixon nephews Matt and Caleb Dixon. Hal is also survived by brother-in-law Tom Chester of Atlanta GA sister-in-law Karron Chester of Atlanta GA niece Candace (Tyler) Smith of Atlanta GA niece Lynsi (Ben) Williams of Atlanta GA brother-in-law Ray (Jan) Chester of Baltimore MD niece Jaimie (Jack) Wagner of Upsilanti MI nephew Scott (Tara) Chester of Pennsylvania nephew Nicholas Chester of Baltimore MD and grand nieces and nephews Natalie and Zachary Wagner Karcyn and Evans Smith Jayden and Landon Chester and Mason Williams. Per Hal's wishes cremation has taken place. No services will be held. The family requests that if memorial donations are desired they be made to the Canine Health Foundation P.O. Box 900061 Raleigh NC 27617 ATTN: Starlight Fund (Toll Free: 888-682-9696) for the advancement of golden retriever health research.
