Ginny Hershey 63 of Akron died Monday October 11 2004 at Hospice Care Center after a long courageous fight against cancer (multiple myeloma). Ginny was born January 30 1941 in Akron and grew up in Cuyahoga Falls earned a BA from Hiram College and began a career in teaching. She returned to teaching after raising her children initially nursery schools at the Jewish Center and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. More recently Ginny was an L.D. tutor at Litchfield Jr. High and the past several years a supplemental service teacher at Garfield High School cluster schools. Ginny was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood (AU Chapter) Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and the First Congregational Church of Akron. Ginny enjoyed sewing needlepoint stamping hiking gardening cooking and entertaining; she was the consumate hostess. Ginny was preceded in death by her parents Forest and Dorothy Hawk and sister Elinor (Hawk) Cox. She is survived by husband Jay Hershey son Don (Michelle) Hershey of Cincinnati daughter Jennifer (Tom) Thompson of Columbus and grandchild Katie Thompson other family members and many friends students and colleagues. Her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church 292 E. Market St. Akron on Saturday October 16 2004 at 11:00 Dr. Jay Groat and Rev. Bill Rodefer officiating with a reception following the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to First Congregational Church 292 E.
