Gertrude Louise Shadeed, 94, passed away May 19, 2016. She was born April 22, 1922 in Lawrence, MA to Albert and Louise Haddad. She married James Shadeed in Lawrence, MA on April, 20, 1947. They moved to Akron, OH in November of 1963 and owned and operated the Tasty Drive-In on 2962 Manchester Rd. The restaurant quickly became famous because of 'Gertie's' cooking. She enjoyed cooking and people. She learned her cooking skills from her mother and 'Gertie' was a wonderful cook. She was very active in Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite Catholic Church. She was loved and highly regarded for the countless hours she spent cooking and helping people through the various Church activities. As a result of her dedication to the Church, she received the National Apostolate of Maronites 'Silver Massabki Award' in 1995. She was truly a selfless person always putting family and friends needs ahead of her own. She was very proud of her sons Joseph and Edward; her grandchildren Michael, Steven, and Catherine; and her great grandchildren Tyler, Griffin and Genevieve. She enjoyed following their activities and bragging about all their accomplishments to friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband James; her son Edward; sisters Rosie, Eva, Dorothy and Gloria; brothers Frederick, William and Edward. She is survived by her son Dr. Joseph Shadeed and his wife Susan; grandsons Michael Shadeed and his wife Kara and Steven Shadeed; granddaughter Catherine Turner and her husband Michael; great grandsons Tyler Shadeed and Griffen Shadeed and great granddaughter Genevieve Shadeed. She was deeply loved by Tria Shadeed and many other loving family and friends. Special thanks to Monsignor Bill Bonczewski and Chorebishop Michael Kail. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite Catholic Church, 507 S. Cleveland-Massillon Rd., Fairlawn, OH 44333 with Reverend Monsignor William Bonczewski officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 - 11AM prior to the Funeral Liturgy. Interment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Cedars Maronite Catholic Church.
